Hartford, CT police department launched drone program

In Progress

The Hartford Police Department (HPD) launched a drone program to track illegal off-road vehicles, assist in missing persons cases, monitor traffic, and perform crowd control for large events. The HPD consulted with the Federal Aviation Administration to design its program and provided officers with a six-week training program ahead of their pilot’s exams. The drones are not used during regular patrols and all footage captured is available to the public under the Freedom of Information Act.
