Hey All,

I am about to release a new version of nbody. This version has a number of updates that expands functionality. I will make a blog post describing these updates soon.

We do not have mac binaries this time around. We are working on getting those. We also do not have 32bit support on either linux or windows.

The system I built the linux binaries on was Ubuntu 14.04 so there is the distinct possibility that they may not run on systems older than this.

I will put up some runs after releasing. Please let me know if there are any problems.
Cheers,
Sidd

Hey ya all, your release is wrecking havoc with our antivirus. Please contact:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2010-051308-1854-99

and have your program added to their white list. Quickly! Or I will have to delete the file and pull the plug so to speak.

Thank you.

I tried to paste a screen shot of the errors that the antivirus is posting. It is just not accepting the cut and paste. Please see what you can do to get your program on the white list!

Thank you,

I am getting lots of compute errors. Validate tasks from other users are having the same problem. Last I looked at my task results, I had 28 errors. I just suspended Milky Way project on all machines. Jake, you have my contact info. Let me know when this is fixed.

Just do an exception for the Boinc directories as it's most likely a false positive due to the way Boinc works. A real virus will try to get out of the Boinc directories and get caught by your a/c but any of the false positives will be ignored. In windows the Boinc directories are at c:\program data\boinc

For the past several days(perhaps since the update?) my Windows machine has not been running any new milky way jobs.

Hi Guys
Jobs appear to be running on my machine but I have not had any credit posted to statistics for the last few days so I cannot be sure they are running correctly.
All the best

Actually you have been getting credits everyday, here is a link to your pc and it's tasks:

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/results.php?hostid=702592&offset=0&show_names=0&state=4&appid=

it shows you are crunching and getting credits.

Hey guys,

I just put up some runs for the new version, so let me know if there are any problems with those. As for the issues you guys have been reporting:

1. the antivirus problem I believe we have seen before. You probably have to make boinc an exception under your firewall.

2. The previous version of nbody is a bit incompatible with the new version, so there might be a few days where the old runs are finishing up. Though they should not error out, so you should still be getting credit for them.

As always, thanks,
Sidd

Too many of my machines are getting too many errors today. Should I let them continue?

It's the bundle5 modfit constraints that are erring out. How do I keep those from being downloaded?

I don't overclock the GPUs (not much on CPUs, either). But, I did use overclocking software to SLOW DOWN several GPUs. Made NO difference.

Hey All,

The new versions of our apps are not compatible with the old versions which is why they error out right away. We did some maintenance to clear the queue so that the only workunits sent out are the new ones. But there are still some that are out there already. This should clear up in a day or two.

Thanks,
Sidd

I've noticed a work unit from this version stalling on my machine. When BOINC fires up, the work unit starts up from where it was before normally. But when BOINC tells it to pause and unloads it from memory because the memory is needed for something else, Milkyway doesn't resume properly. The elapsed time continues to count, but it makes no progress. The only way I've found to get it going again once stalled is to restart BOINC. Because of this, its been stuck on this unit for like a week and it should take my machine less than a day.

Great! And I do not know what you are studying. But when I entered the site, I knew I should do something. I downloaded your software and let it run when it was free. When it came to see this morning, it told me that she had more than 14,000 points and I did not know what it meant, but I would have been going on for it all the time. Well, that's it.
